Ayahuasca Farts & God in Everything

I never was drawn to the music of Incubus but appreciate this multi-level exchange from a recent discussion between Brandon Boyd & interviewer Shylah Ray. Their discussion mostly explores music, being present, & psychedelics.

Shylah Ray seems to have expected some pithy takeaway & seems to doubt her final interview question was treated thoughtfully enough, but this perceived 'seriousness mismatch' turns out to be perfectly illustrative.

Shylah Ray: If you had one minute to speak to the world about anything, what would you say?
Brandon Boyd: I'd probably tell a fart joke.

SR: Be serious.
BB: I feel like the world is serious enough.
And going back to the idea that god is everywhere & god is in everything: there is no such thing as not god. Even in the lowest lows & the highest highs. Attaching any kind of a significance to the highest highs or the lowest lows is a fool's errand.

God is everywhere. God is in [all of] the details. Maybe that's what I would say. & don't attach so much [significance] to when something goes 'wrong' or when something goes 'right'—just observe it. Just watch. Watch what happens inside of you as you're observing what's going 'so right' & what is going 'so wrong', & everything in between.

That's where life gets really exciting & beautiful. It opens you up to the possibility of recognition of the miraculousness of everything.

You start paying attention to all the things that don't mean anything to most people. God is in all of those things.

SR: & life gets better.
BB: Yeah. So, I suppose that's what I'd say, & tinge it with a fart joke... or just fart after saying all that. I wish I could conjure a fart right there.
...Never trust a fart.

SR: Oh, you know what they say!? Never trust an Ayahuasca fart.
...and you have to wear white.
BB: That is good advice.
