Practicing Volatility with Kazuki Tomokawa

The most moving artistic results come when we push beyond what is known, what is prepared, what is expected to work. …in pursuit of greater freedom and volatility.

It occurred to me today that Kazuki Tomokawa is a Japanese existentialist in the tradition of Genet, Sartre and Jacques Brel, a fact which I'm sure Tomokawa has acknowledged.

Some wisdom from the embedded video below:

  • It's a fight—what height can you reach?

…how to keep this concentration all of the time?

    …It's like holding a ghost

  • It's not playing together… it's like going to the sky together.

The final song from this Take Away Show series is a wonderful introduction to Tomokawa's world.
